Executive Summary
Arizona measures compliance with drinking water standards at the edge of a Compliance Zone around an ASR well, not at the wellhead, prior to recharge. Exact wording of the Arizona regulations may be obtained through the following URL:

Projects with vadose zone injection wells (drywells) using Central Arizona Project (CAP) water or other surface water without disinfection are as follows:

  • City of Mesa Red Mountain (CAP water overflows from lake into drywells)

  • Del Webb Sun City Grand (CAP water mixed with runoff from a golf course directed to infiltration trenches)

  • City of Scottsdale Westworld (filtered CAP water injected into vadose zone wells)

  • Vicksburg Farms McMullen Valley Water Conservation and Drainage Dist. (injection through agricultural wells)

  • Vidler Water Company (recharge basins augmented with vadose zone wells to increase recharge rate)

Projects with vadose zone injection wells using effluent that is disinfected are as follows:

  • Town of Gilbert at Warner & McQueen Roads (pilot project with a well - not operating currently)

  • City of Chandler and Ocotillo Management Group (overflow from lakes enters drywells)

  • Chandler Regional Park

  • Pima Utilities Sun Lakes (overflow from lakes enters drywells)

  • Tempe Ken McDonald Golf Course (pilot project with a well - not currently operating)

  • Fountain Hills Sanitary District

  • Scottsdale Water Campus (both disinfected effluent and disinfected CAP are injected through vadose wells)

Projects injecting disinfected CAP water are as follows:

  • Scottsdale Water Campus

  • Scottsdale Gainey Ranch (pilot for eventual effluent recharge)
